You can learn how to gain confidence

Most of us don’t feel all that comfortable talking about our feelings, particularly our feelings regarding ourselves. This doesn’t mean that we should be sharing our innermost thoughts with everyone in our circle, but it is healthy to know what feelings we have, acknowledge them, and express ourselves based on the real feelings we experience. The way we feel about ourselves has a critically important impact on the quality of our lives, and often determines our eventual success at work, in our finances, and in our key relationships. Discovering how to gain confidence and self-esteem might not seem like an important task, until you consider that there is no element of our lives that isn’t enhanced by a healthier perspective toward ourselves.

That’s due primarily to the annoying fact that for the majority of us, there is no such thing as a “quiet mind.” We’re either processing sensory inputs – describing, correlating, processing, and judging what we see, feel, taste, and hear – or generating a continuous stream of mental noise. That noise generally takes the form of snippets of imaginary conversations, which actually have tremendous impact on our mood, our outlook, and ultimately on our behavior and habits.

If we believe that we are well-equipped to overcome challenges, master difficult new skills, and move beyond major obstacles toward our goals, we tend to generally exhibit behaviors that support this belief. Those positive behaviors, in turn, generate consistently positive results. When we approach life from the perspective that our consistent efforts are worthwhile and productive, we’re happy to keep performing the small, daily duties that inevitably lead to success.

If, on the other hand, our internal dialogue tends to be defeatist and negative, we generally quit performing the success-producing behaviors, or start to go about them with such negative energy that they become ineffective. This starts a negative spiral that results in an even worse attitude, which in turn generates even worse performance.

The best way to avoid this cycle is to change the quality and content of your thinking, and changing this kind of thinking is a very effective way to gain self confidence.  The easiest way to permanently replace those negative thoughts is to learn how to do guided meditation, usually with a narrated guided imagery script. Over time, adopting just a few positive beginner mantras for meditation can produce life-altering results.
