When Cheap Mattresses Make a Lot of Sense

Usually you won’t catch us recommending anything based upon price alone. We talk about quality and value for money rather than being “cheap”. However, we will make an exception here and state that there are definitely some situations where using cheap mattresses will be just fine.

If the mattresses you are buying are only going to be used occasionally – for example, for visiting relatives who come and see you once a year, for the rare times that friends will come and want to stay the night because it’s too late or they’ve had too much to drink to drive home, or when the kids friends will come over for a sleepover party – then they do not need cost a lot. Either of these choices make the best guest beds for visitors.

Two of the most popular types of mattresses for occasional use such as this are air mattresses and futons. An air bed can be packed away into a small space or into the back of the car, making them ideal for camping or for the kids to use in the yard, as well as to make an emergency bed for a guest. If you can buy a single and a full size one for your house this should cover most eventualities and sleep 3 visitors, providing you have a few bed in a bag sets lying around to provide the linen you need too.

Futons are great, multi-functional items that can act as beds, sofas or chairs, depending on the nature of their frames. The mattresses are quite portable and the frames collapsible too so they can be moved around in the back of a car or trailer easily and unlike full mattress sets they are easy to take down and reassemble in another room. Check out a few futon mattress reviews to learn more about what’s available and what the better manufacturers are, before you commit.
