What are the Credit Card Options?

The economy is teetering, many banks have gone out of business and the ones that have survived have tightened up their credit offerings. Even with all this being the case, there are still credit card offers out there. While there might not be as many options as there used to be there is still quite a bit to choose from.

First let’s define what a credit card really is. Its an unsecured line of credit. The bank is letting you spend to buy things and you don’t have to put up an asset against that loan to protect the bank in case you can’t make your payments.

The first option you want to look at is the interest rate. For any balance that you don’t pay off on the first statement after the purchase date you are going to pay interest. So obviously the lower this interest rate is the better, if you will be carring a balance.

The next option to look for is the the available balance. You have to be careful with this as this is were many people can get in over their head. In an ideal world you’d like to have the highest possible balance so that you have plenty to work with. If you have a tight month you can dip into this balance a little further then normal and then pay it off the next month to catch up. Just make sure you can pay off what you buy.

My favorite option is loyalty points/miles. There are many many options in the category and you will need to shop around to find one that fits your interest and is lucrative enough to be worth while. There are ‘rewards’ for everything from points you can use to purchase electronics, to hotels stays, to airplane tickets. As long as you are using you credit wisely it can really be fun to watch these points add up to rewards you are saving for.

So credit cards are all cheap unsecured loans which have many options to choose from. The key with any options you are looking at is to minimize your costs and maximize your rewards. So if you are looking for a credit card, hop online and find the best options for you, and fill out those applications so you can be approved for the cheapest unsecured loans in the form of a credit card.
