Depression is a problem that happens to so many people, and it can go undetected for as long as no one notices. This explains why family and friends could miss out completely on the signs of depression. The problem is, there are many people who refuse to admit that they need depression treatment, and this can complicate matters even more. How can you help anyone in denial?
Can you cure depression? Well the cure for depression will always be personalized because no cases of depression are exactly alike. Sure, there are medications and drugs available to treat symptoms of depression like pills to help you sleep, appetite pills, or pills to clam you down. These drugs will not address the problem of depression per se. And this means that the symptoms will keep coming back as long as no proper depression treatment is done.
Depression can also range from a mild case of sadness to severe depression wherein the person simply refuses to go on living. It is also very easy to fall into depression and stay there because it’s a form pf escape from reality. The person will feed on his sadness, loneliness, or whatever caused the depression, and if it makes them feel better, then they will keep on feeding it.
The only depression treatment you can do is to start looking at the situation in a holistic way. You need to look at the history, recent history, medical history, trauma or events that could have caused the depression. Once this is established, then the doctor can know what direction to take. In some cases, the depression is clinical which means it is expected like postpartum depression, and simple medication and patience will work miracles. It is a short term kind of depression so at most it will last a few months, on the average.
Other depression treatments require a more extensive approach. This means meeting and consultation with a psychiatrist and/or counselors. Joining a group supervised by a doctor can also help because it will show the participants that they are not alone in their condition.
