Spanish For Smart Housing Searches

When preparing a trip abroad, there are many, many things to think about – what to pack, when to book a ticket and where you are staying once you arrive. The last question is probably one of the most important things you will want to figure out before you set off on your journey – especially if you are traveling a long way and to a country where English is not the predominant language. Many people elect to book a hotel or hostel before they leave, and this is probably a good idea. However, it is much easier for a person to potentially take advantage of you if you book an apartment for an extended stay from abroad. This is especially true if you do not speak the language.

For example, if you happen to be traveling to Buenos Aires, many landlords and apartment rental agencies know English speakers will probably be traveling with something like the U.S. dollar or the G.B. pound which is much stronger than the Argentine peso, and it is possible they will try to take advantage of that. This is why it is a good idea to only book a temporary stay at a hotel or hostel from abroad. Then once you arrive, you should take a few Spanish classes in Buenos Aires in order to be more successful when dealing with someone when you start your search for an apartment.

Trying to find an apartment in the city can be a very convoluted process, however, there are always many apartments and shared housing listings on the internet, and with so many choices, something is bound to work out. When trying to choose an apartment, make sure that you go see it first, as sometimes the listing is misleading. For instance, it might tell you the apartment has two bedrooms when in reality it has a normal bedroom and then a very small office area with a sofa bed. This is another reason you should consider trying to learn Spanish in Buenos Aires. It will give you an advantage when dealing with proprietors on the internet, on the phone and then in person when trying to work out the details of your rental agreement.
