Some of the best sweaters money can buy
Merino wool has been considered for many centuries to be one of the best types of wool as it is very warm and soft. It is also ideal for cardigans and sweaters and not only is a good wool to maintain body heat but it can also do it well when it gets wet. It is not a surprise then if you will find at least a percentage of merino wool in most sport and outdoor clothing. The merino sheep came originally from the Atlas mountain in North Africa an area well know for its extremes of weather: very cold at night and extremely hot during the day. That is why it has developed such sophisticated thermal qualities. A merino wool sweater will keep you warm even in the most difficult circumstances, you will also find many trendy designs for women, men and children so you can also look good. While for many centuries merino wool came from Spain after sheep were taken there by the Moors during the Middle Ages, not it is more likely to come from the USA. New Zealand or Australia.
Another high quality wool is angora wool which comes from the hair of the angora rabbit. Not to be confused with mohair wool which instead comes from the hair of the angora goat. The best angora wool comes from the hair at the back and the sides of the rabbit where it is thicker, longer and warmer. Angora wool though is not as elastic as other types of wool and for this reason is nearly always blended with other yarns. You might know that angora sweaters were very trendy in the 1950s but as these sweaters required lots of care and shred hair everywhere they went out of fashion. There are now better blends of angora wool that do not leave a trail of hair behind everywhere you go, at the same time they retain some of the most likeable properties found in this wool. Therefore an angora sweater can be an option again.
