The world today is full of standards, and even beauty has a standard. For women, beautiful should comprise of long, shiny hair, round, bright eyes, pointed nose, kissable lips, perfect smile, and radiant white skin. But many women have dark complexions, so most of them resort to whitening methods and processes. The most common methods for whitening the skin include the use of topical formulas and substances like creams, lotions, and many other cosmetic products.

Sometimes it’s difficult to find the perfect product for you, especially when it comes to topical products. Some of them take months to show any effects. Some show none at all. And others do nothing but irritate the skin. However, there is one topical solution that can be very effective in lightening the skin and making it fairer. This product is called the kojic cream.

Kojic acid is a natural substance that can be derived from native Japanese fungi called koji. It is also a by-product made from the fermentation process of rice wine, or sake. The acid is a known tyrosinase inhibitor. Tyrosinase is the enzyme responsible for synthesizing melanin. By inhibiting this enzyme, the amount of melanin in the skin is greatly diminished, causing the elimination of dark pigmentation on the surface of the skin.

When kojic acid is added as an active ingredient in creams, a little amount is sufficient to create a good effect of inhibiting tyrosinase. But usually kojic acid creams have more than just the main ingredient. They also have other ingredients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, some of the well-known antioxidants that aid the skin in regenerating new layers and eliminating dead skin cells. Most creams also have glycolic and lactic acid, other natural substances that aid in the growth of new skin cells and allowing new layers of skin to replace dead cells.
