Trekking in Nepal consists of walking the rough terrains of the upper hills and the mountains. It is not a surprise that there are trekking to most of the mountains in the Himalayas of Nepal. This also proves how important mountains are, for the depiction of Nepal in the world. Along with the trekking to Mounts Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Langtang Liuri, there is a trekking route available to Makalu. Makalu is the fifth highest mountains in the world; it reaches eight thousand four hundred and sixty three meters(27765 feet), in elevation. The mountain lies on the border of Nepal and China, and can be climbed from both countries. Makalu has distinct shape of a pyramid, and has two supplementary peaks. Other than that, it is an isolated mountain, which does not fall in any Himal.
The name Makalu has been mystifying people for ages; there have been no clear conclusions to what it means. However, the most readily accepted meaning of the mountain’s name is literally, “The Great Black.” This may be because of the color of the mountain, and the fact that it is not covered with snow, but looks rocky and barren. Makalu was climbed in 1955 by a French expedition team; it is one of the most difficult of mountains to climb in the world. As it is isolated and has steep edges, it is technically challenging to make it to the summit. Nonetheless, the trekking to the area can be highly rewarding, as you will be able to see the natural beauty of Nepal, at its rugged best. Makalu, like many other peaks, has been incorporated in a National park, Makalu Barun National Park.
Makalu trekking will include the route through the Makalu Barun National Park to the Makalu base camp. During the trek, you will be able to see the greenery of the Arun Valley, which has been noted as the deepest valley in the world. It has a tropical environment. Then you will be able to see the rhododendrons that make any environment look beautiful. Nextly, you will find the evergreen pines at a higher altitude, leading to an alpine vegetation of herbs and shrubs. The trek also leads the walk up the Barun glacier which is as spectacular, as the mountain itself. You will also have a chance of getting up close, to Mount Makalu and the Arun River. The walk through the Makalu Barun valley will lead you, to the cultural richness of the natives of the valley. It may not be a popular route, but if you want to walk the less traveled route, then Makalu trek is for you. A trek, from the point of about eight hundred fifty meters to, about five thousand meters is amazing in itself.
