Learn Traditional Thai Massage

Anyone who has been to Thailand can show pictures, talk about the temples and brag about their most successful bargains. But not everybody can say they acquired a useful new skill during their visit to the Land of Smiles.

You can be different. Why not learn Thai massage?

Thai massage is famous all over the world for its effective techniques that relax, invigorate and comfort the whole body. You can discover the secrets of Thai massage directly from its origin when you visit that part of the world. Several first-rate schools in Thailand are qualified and accredited to teach massage to tourists, expats and citizens alike. That includes you.

If you are quite new to Thai massage, you might want to study the simplest courses designed for the novice.

A basic Thai massage course shows you the standard massage routine practiced by masseurs in Thailand.  It doesn’t treat a specific health problem, but it is good for when you want to give a loved one a massage to relax them or help them stretch out. The massage taught here is for the general population and is different from “royal” Thai massage which is more respectful. (Since it’s unlikely you will ever have to do massage for a member of the Thai royal family, you don’t need to know about it.)

Another course you can study is Thai foot massage. The feet are among the most neglected parts of the body. Often they can benefit from a massage. What’s more, the feet have pressure points in them that correspond to other parts of the body. Treating these points is supposed to elicit a reaction in the corresponding part.]

If you don’t fancy touching other people or having them touch you, check out Thai yoga or Ruesri Datton. Better suited for people who prefer solo practice, Thai yoga exercise improves flexibility, range of motion and muscle strength and brings other benefits as well.

Thai massage classes are more like crash courses than real schooling. A course can take anywhere from a single day to a week if it is just a beginner’s class. So even if you are not on an extended visit to Thailand, you can fit a class or two into your itinerary. Even for tourists, requirements are usually minimal. Just bring your passport, some ID photos and Thai baht cash to pay the each course you apply for.

A vacation won’t last forever, but an education does. Thai massage training has the potential to give long-lasting benefits.
