Haad Rin is the most famous beach area on the tropical island of Koh Phangan in Thailand. This is due to the tremendous success of the Full Moon Party over the last few years. Since 1987 when the first party happened at Paradise Bungalows visitor numbers to the party have grown. During the high season as many as 30,000 people attend the Full Moon Party. But what is Haad Rin like?
Haad Rin is made up of a town full of guest houses, restaurants, bars and shops. It is a totally commercial area – nothing remains of the old fisherman’s homes or the traditional economic activity of cultivating coconuts. If you want the old Koh Phangan you have to go to places like Chaloklum.
There are two main beaches in Haad Rin – Haad Rin Nok the sunrise beach facing east and Haad Rin Nai the sunset beach facing west. Of the two beaches, Haad Rin Nok where the Full Moon Party is held is by far the best beach. The sand is better, swimming is better and it is a longer beach. Haad Rin Nok is a beautiful white sand beach, but it is a party beach and all that that implies. If you are looking for a party atmosphere and lots of activity, all on a beautiful white sand beach, this is the spot for you. If you are looking for a beach holiday like those found at Aya Napa or Majorca, then Haad Rin will seem like heaven to you. The sun is hot, the sea is warm, the prices are cheap and the nightlife goes on until the following day every day.
There are both cheap places and more luxurious places to stay in Haad Rin. You can choose from inexpensive bungalows or air conditioned hotel rooms. There is nothing resembling 5 star accommodations in Haad Rin but you can find them at Thong Nai Pan Noi or the neighboring island of Koh Samui.
Haad Rin in Koh Phangan are not meant to be quiet sunbathing beaches for relaxing, but they are great for spending your visits partying and playing on the beach all night.
