Create Your Own Eyelet Curtains In 5 Simple Steps

Eyelet curtains are unlike any other type of curtain because they have eyelets (little metal rings) through which the curtain pole slides through and so they provide a totally different look to that of traditional curtains. It is fairly simple to make your own eyelet curtains with no previous experience required. It is also an inexpensive way of making your own curtains although they look very elegant.
For this project you will need:
Plastic or metal eyelets
Sharp scissors
Felt tip pen
Material of your choice
Sewing machine
Measuring tape
Tacking pins
Thread to match the color of material
Curtain Tape
Instructions for making curtains with eyelets:
1. Take the measurements of the window(s) and add on one inch to each side as you will require this for the seam. The length is totally up to you but personally I think that they should not drop to the floor.
2. Cut the material out to size to reflect the measurements in the previous step. Apply a strip of curtain tape across the top of the material for reinforcement, fold a one inch hem and iron it in place. On each of the other three sides fold a one inch hem, iron it in place and secure with the tacking pins.
3. Slowly sew all hems removing the tacking pins as you work.
4. Hold up the material the wrong way round and using the felt tip pen, make a ‘dot’ in the center of the top hem. Place the eyelet with the ridged side down over the dot and with the pen trace round the inside of the eyelet onto the material. Very carefully cut around the circle using the sharp scissors.
5. Now position the eyelet under the hole, ridged side down and the prolonged part of the eyelet over it and secure them together (you will hear them snap into place). Continue on doing the same spacing the eyelets out as you see fit and when you are done your curtains will be ready to hang up.
