Considering a Career Switch
If you are one of the thousands upon thousands of people who have been affected by the poor economy during the last few years, you may well have considered whether you should go back to school to get training for a new career. It is a difficult thing to evaluate, since the costs of schooling can be so high that you would graduate in significant debt, and you might have trouble paying back the burdensome loans that helped you get a better job. And, of course, there is always the danger that the world will change in such a way that the job you get trained for may experience little demand in the future. If you want to train for a new career that has a good outlook, you should consider looking at medical careers.
There are many different jobs in the field of medicine, and not all of them require years of school or internship before you start making a good wage. For instance, the increasing number of elderly patients in the United States is expected to increase demand for those with medical backgrounds for the next several years. But which career should you consider, specifically? We have a few options below.
Pharmacy Technician. This career is one that you can start with very little training, but it also has a limited opportunity for advancement unless you go for further training. If you are nearing retirement age and you want something that will not take too long to start, this may still be a good option for you.
Ultrasound Technician. The average ultrasound technician salary in the US can be more than $50,000 per year, and even double that for some technicians. This job will take more advanced training and time before you can begin earning that nice wage, but it is an excellent option for a younger person, or a person who is looking for long term job security.
