Australia The Land of Rare Animals

Australia is home to some of the rare animals that are not found anywhere else on our planet. The marsupials that thrive in Australia are unique to this island country. With characteristics similar to mammals but with their own distinct ones as well, they are very interesting animals. Kangaroos have to be the most popular among them with their short forelimbs, large tails, their pouch and characteristic hopping way of running. Koalas are another type of marsupials that are native to this land.
Marsupials in fact are the most successful group of animals in Australia. Some of them can even be categorized as strange animals for their surprising abilities and a distinct way of life. Animals such as wombats, Tasmanian devil, wallabies, echidna, and platypus all belong to the marsupials.
Echidna and platypus are the only mammals that lay eggs. The platypus is one of the strangest animals with long snouts, poisonous claws and a brownish body.
The Tasmanian devil is another one of the rare animals found in Australia. It is a very fascinating creature with a small size and short temper. It is the largest surviving marsupial carnivore known and although is still quite small, they have been known to bring down kangaroos. They are black in color and look like a cross between a mouse and a bear. On the other hand, Koalas are one of the cutest animals known. Living a top tree tops, they never drink water as the moisture on the leaves suffices them.
Australia has strict laws that prevent export of Koalas as they are an endangered species. So even though they are cuddly and desirable, it is illegal to keep them as pets, and Tasmanian devils are also an endangered species, though no one in the right mind would want these temperamental little marsupials as pets!
